Deadly fungal disease is spreading in US and Canada.

As per the reports from Reuters in northwestern United States and neighboring British Columbia a deadly fungal disease is spreading which affects both animals and humans.

A new airborne fungus known as Cryptococcus gattii was found by researchers which previously infected people with weak immune system and transplant patients. But now they are claiming that the new strain has the potential to attack healthy people.

The research report published in the Public Library of Science journal says “This novel fungus is worrisome because it appears to be a threat to otherwise healthy people… the outbreak of C. gattii in Western North America is continuing to expand throughout this temperate region”.

About 25% that is 5 of the 21 people who have been infected with the new strain of the fungus in the U.S. have died. While in Canada the death rate is less compared to 8.7% of the 218 infected people. The disease has also spread to different species of mammals.

The symptoms like cough, sharp chest pain, shortness of breath, headache, fever, nighttime sweats and weight loss are seen in the infected persons within two weeks. Research shows that freezing can kill the fungus and climate change can help it spread.

The Pune IPL team is named as Sahara Pune Warriors. Team owners Sahara Group announced the team name on Saturday. Sahara had bagged Pune in the last month’s auction for the two new IPL teams.

Sahara Adventure Sports Group had made an identical USD 370 million bid for three cities — Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Pune. And finally chose Pune. “They made the highest bid for all three cities and were asked to choose one of the cities. Accordingly, Pune will be their home ground,” Modi had told reporters.

Kochi is the second new IPL team. Both these teams will play Twenty20 league from the 2011 season.

World chess Championship match between Viswanathan Anand and Veselin Topalov

World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand and Challenger Veselin Topalov will play for the world championship today. The event was inaugurated by Bulgarian PM Boiko Borisov.

Viswanathan Anand disagreed with the Sofia Rule for the competition and said: “A world championship should be played with world championship rules.”
Topalov said: “For 5 years Anand and I have dominated the chess world. This match should have happened long time ago.”

According to the Sofia rule, an opponent cannot directly offer or accept draws during the game and all communication has to be through the arbiter.

Today the 20th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope is celebrated by Google and released new pictures. Hubble telescope is named after astronomer Edwin P.Hubble. Hubble has revealed the age of the universe to be about 13 to 14 billion years old and has played a key role in the discovery of ‘dark energy’, a mysterious force that causes the expansion of the universe to accelerate.

A new stunning image of the Carina Nebula was released on the 20th anniversary of Hubble by the telescope that was recently repaired. In that image we can see the massive gas pillars of nebula having a region of star forming. The height of the tallest pillar is 3 light years. New forming stars separate them from the middle and are emitting powerful gas jets.

Chris Shaw, the lucky winner of the Powerball from Missouri, spoke about his winning a Powerball lottery jackpot totaling $258.5 million. Chris had three children and he is planning to pay bills from the money he got to find some peace of mind. He spoke about feeling as if a huge burden has been lifted. Chris Shaw is 29-year-old gas station clerk.

“We didn’t come from money. For us, it’s just going to be a huge relief to know I’m going to be able to pay my electric bill, my gas bill. It’s like a weight lifted. I had bills at home I didn’t know how they were going to be paid,” Chris Shaw said in an interview with the Associated Press.
Shaw bought the lottery ticket at the Marshall, Missouri gas station where he works. He is the biggest lottery winner in the state’s history.
